Welcome to the Yukon Territory. :)


The famous Watson Lake, Yukon Territory "Sign Post Forest." I wish we would have stopped (I would have taken much better pictures), but we were pretty determined to make it to Whitehorse that night.



We stopped for gas and snacks in Teslin, which is located on a beautifully developed piece of property on the shore of Nisutlin Bay. They had a sweet little wildlife gallery located in the gift shop.




Outside they had a moose and a caribou that John had to check out. :)




Ahhh, Whitehorse. Yes! Time to settle down for the night.

Out of control gas price in the middle of nowhere. $1.37 per litre.....that means $5.07 per gallon kids. But hey....she also has Belgian waffle cones.

Finally we arrived in Liard River, B.C. and that means Liard Hot Springs. Luckily I called the only lodge in town when we were about 4 hours away to see if they had any rooms available.... and they had ONE left! Woo Hoo. The lodge is a beautiful log cabin full of friendly people. This room was soooo nice, especially considering where we had slept the night before. :) The room was quite affordable and it had 2 double beds and 2 twin beds.

Today we made it to Dawson Creek, which is the official start of the "Alaska Highway" or as I still call it, the Alcan. I tried to get a decent picture of the official Mile Zero sign, but this was what I managed.....a nice, bug splattered windshield version. :)


About 5 miles into our official journey on the Alcan we hit a detour.


The nice detour gave our vehicle a lovely mud bath. :)



What can I say about the Alexander MacKenzie Inn? Nothing really nice, but considering the fact that the Super 8 up the road was $269 per night, we didn't have much of a choice. I didn't take any interior pictures, but I assure you that the room was decked out in the finest linens, paintings and tv the 1970's had to offer. Our room was FREEZING so they sent a portable heater up. We were still using it in the morning while I attempted to blow dry my hair and BAM the lights went out. Apparently having the two going at the same time was too much for our room to handle. The best part of the hotel was the sweet strip club located just off the lobby....called "The Wet Spot." I promise I'm not making that up!

Ha ha... don't be fooled by the apparently sweet gas price....that is the price per litre and there are 3.7 litres per gallon folks.


Speed limit 100! Woo hoo! Even though we all know it is km per hour, it's still a cool speed limit, eh?
